Canon in D is Johann Pachelbel's canon for three violins and basso continuo, originally paired with a gigue. The date and circumstances of its composition are unknown, and it was first published only in 1919. A 1968 recording by the Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra changed its fortunes.
