Words and Music by Stevie Wonder Arranged by Fillipe Mendel - Overjoyed by Filipe Mendel

Stevie Wonder’s Overjoyed, released on his 1985 album In Square Circle, is a heartfelt ballad distinguished by its lyrical melody and rich, sophisticated harmonies. Its intimate character and expressive phrasing have made it one of the most memorable songs in Wonder’s repertoire.

This intermediate piano solo arrangement brings the song’s distinctive musical character to the piano, balancing the melody with a harmonically rich accompaniment. The writing aims to preserve the warmth and sensitivity of the original while creating a satisfying solo performance, with textures that allow the melody to stand out naturally.

Designed for intermediate pianists, this arrangement offers an opportunity to explore expressive phrasing, chord voicing, dynamic contrast, and the subtle harmonic colors that give the song its emotional depth. It provides a rewarding musical challenge without losing the intimate atmosphere at the heart of the original.

Suitable for recitals, personal enjoyment, and performances of contemporary popular music, this piano solo offers a thoughtful interpretation of a timeless Stevie Wonder classic.
